The Quiet Place: Creating Space for God in a Noisy World
Opening
We live in a world that rewards urgency. Faster responses. Full calendars. Constant information. Endless scrolling. Even our spiritual lives can become something we feel we must do rather than receive.
But God has always done His deepest work in quiet places.
Not in the earthquake.
Not in the fire.
Not in the rushing wind.
But in the still, small whisper.
This winter season carries an invitation — not to strive harder, but to make space. Space in our schedules. Space in our minds. Space in our hearts. Space where God can meet us, restore us, and gently realign what has grown weary or tangled.
Quiet is not emptiness.
Quiet is availability.
Why Stillness Feels So Unnatural
Many of us resist stillness because it removes distraction. When things slow down, we become more aware — of fatigue, of longing, of unprocessed emotions, of prayers we’ve postponed.
From an emotional intelligence perspective, stillness increases self-awareness. It allows us to notice what we feel rather than outrun it. Spiritually, stillness increases God-awareness. It tunes our hearts to recognize His presence that has been there all along.
Winter seasons — literal or metaphorical — are designed for this very purpose. Roots grow deeper underground. Healing happens quietly. Strength is rebuilt out of sight.
Nothing visible is happening…
yet everything important is.
A Quiet Confirmation
As I prepared this message, I began a new study in Ephesians. On Day One, the focus was on believers learning to live and stay spiritually anchored in a noisy world. I smiled when I realized how perfectly it mirrored this very theme. God often confirms His invitations through repetition — the same whisper appearing in different places until we recognize His voice.
Perhaps this message is part of that whisper for you too.
At the same time, one of my intentions for this season is to use the knowledge and understanding I’m gaining — both in Scripture and emotional awareness — in my Faith + EQ work. That means I’m not just studying these truths; I’m learning to live them, embody them, and one day guide other women into the same anchored, Spirit-led way of being.
Personal growth and purposeful calling are not separate paths. They’re one unfolding journey.
Creating a Quiet Place in Daily Life
Stillness doesn’t require a mountaintop retreat. It begins with small holy pauses.
• Sitting for a few minutes before reaching for your phone
• Taking slow breaths before beginning your day
• Pausing between tasks to re-center
• Letting silence exist without rushing to fill it
• Turning routine moments into sacred moments
These are not spiritual achievements. They are gentle openings — simple ways of saying, “Lord, I’m here.”
And when we create space, God fills it.
Scriptures for This Season
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
1 Kings 19:12
“And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
Isaiah 30:15
“In quietness and trust is your strength.”
Let these verses sit with you this week. Don’t rush to interpret them. Simply let them rest in your heart like seeds beneath winter soil.
A Gentle Reflection
Where in your life is God inviting you to slow down rather than push forward?
What might become clearer if you allowed a little more quiet to exist?
You don’t have to force answers.
Stillness reveals them in time.
Closing Blessing
May you feel no pressure to hurry through this season.
May quiet become a safe place rather than an empty one.
May you discover that in stillness, you are never alone — you are held, seen, and lovingly restored.
And as you enter this weekend’s devotional, may you experience not just the idea of holy stillness — but the comfort of being held within it.
Stepping Into Sacred Quiet
