A Time to Keep and a Time to Cast Away
📖 Scripture
“A time to keep and a time to cast away.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:6 (ESV)
🌿 Devotional Reflection
Autumn invites us to reflect on the beauty of surrender. The trees don’t resist when their leaves fall; they simply release what’s no longer needed for the next season of growth. In the same way, God often invites us into spiritual pruning—not as punishment, but as preparation.
There are seasons when God whispers, “Hold on,” and others when He gently says, “Let go.”
Holding on may look like persevering through a challenge or nurturing a relationship that still bears fruit. Letting go may mean releasing guilt, outdated expectations, or the illusion of control. Both are acts of obedience when guided by the Holy Spirit.
Emotional intelligence reminds us to notice what we’re carrying. Self-awareness helps us discern which emotions or attachments are rooted in fear rather than faith. As we align with God’s truth, we learn to release not out of frustration, but out of freedom.
Restoration begins when we stop clinging and start trusting. 🍁
💛 Journaling Prompt
Take time to prayerfully reflect on this question:
➡️ What am I still holding onto that God may be asking me to release?
Write about how you feel when you think about letting it go—and then ask God to replace that space with His peace and provision.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, thank You for teaching me the beauty of balance—to know when to hold on and when to release.
Help me let go of what no longer aligns with Your will so that I can walk freely in Your purpose.
May my heart reflect the rhythm of Your seasons—trusting, surrendering, and resting in You.
🍂 Amen.
💫 Action Step
Today, symbolically release something you’ve been carrying—write it on a piece of paper and tear it up, or whisper it in prayer as you breathe deeply and exhale.
Allow God to fill that open space with His renewing presence.
