When Your Soul Is in a Different Season

Trusting God’s work when your season of planting does not look like everyone else’s harvest

Summer often represents abundance.

Gardens are growing, flowers are blooming, and fields are moving toward harvest. The longer days invite us to enjoy the fruit of what has already been planted.

But lately, I have been reminded that the season outside our window does not always reflect the season within our soul.

While summer may be a season of growth and harvest in the natural world, I sense that God has me in a season of planting.

I am taking in the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I am listening more closely, gathering ideas, learning new things, and allowing God to prepare me for what comes next. Some of what He is planting feels exciting and full of possibility. Other parts are still beneath the surface, where I cannot yet see what they will become.

And perhaps that is the invitation of this season: to trust what God is doing before there is visible evidence of growth.

God Has His Own Timing

We can easily look at the lives of others and believe we should already be producing, building, harvesting, or celebrating.

We may see someone else stepping into a new opportunity while we are still waiting for direction. Someone else may be enjoying the fruit of years of work while we are beginning again. Their life may appear to be in full bloom while ours feels more like freshly turned soil.

But God does not ask us to live according to someone else’s season.

There is no shame in planting while others are harvesting.

There is no failure in being prepared while others are being promoted.

There is no wasted time when God is developing our character, renewing our minds, strengthening our faith, or quietly placing something new within us.

Ecclesiastes reminds us:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
—Ecclesiastes 3:1

Every season has purpose—including the seasons that do not look productive from the outside.

Planting Is Sacred Work

Planting requires faith because we place something into the ground before we know exactly how or when it will grow.

In the same way, God may be asking us to plant seeds of obedience, creativity, healing, learning, courage, or change.

A seed may look small, but it contains the beginning of something much greater.

The quiet idea you keep returning to may be a seed.

The desire to begin again may be a seed.

The boundary you are learning to establish may be a seed.

The prayer you continue to pray may be a seed.

The wisdom you are gaining through a difficult season may be preparing the soil for something you cannot yet see.

Not every season is meant to produce immediate results. Some seasons are meant to deepen our roots.

Flourishing Looks Different in Every Season

We often define flourishing by what is visible: accomplishments, opportunities, financial growth, recognition, relationships, or forward movement.

But flourishing can also look like:

Choosing peace instead of pressure.

Listening instead of rushing.

Healing instead of performing.

Preparing instead of prematurely producing.

Trusting God when the next step is not yet clear.

Sometimes flourishing is not the harvest itself. Sometimes it is becoming the woman who will be ready to steward the harvest when it arrives.

This has caused me to reflect on my own journey. I may not have every answer about what is ahead, but I sense that God is preparing me. He is giving me inspiration, allowing new ideas to take root, and inviting me to remain open to His direction.

I am learning that preparation is not a pause from my purpose.

Preparation is part of my purpose.

Reflect

What season are you truly in right now?

Try to describe it without judging it. Are you planting, waiting, pruning, growing, healing, resting, or harvesting?

Renew

Release the belief that your life should look like someone else’s.

God has not forgotten you. The work happening beneath the surface may be just as important as the fruit that will eventually appear above it.

Respond

Ask the Holy Spirit:

What are You planting in me during this season, and how can I faithfully nurture it?

Then choose one small way to cooperate with what God is doing. Write down the idea. Begin the study. Make the call. Create space to pray. Take one obedient step without demanding to see the entire outcome.

A Prayer for Your Season

Father, thank You that every season of my life has purpose. Help me stop comparing my journey to the visible harvest in someone else’s life. Give me the patience to honor the season You have placed me in.

Show me what You are planting within me. Help me nurture it through prayer, obedience, wisdom, and trust. When I cannot see evidence of growth, remind me that You are still working beneath the surface.

Prepare my heart for what comes next, and help me become the woman who can faithfully carry what You are preparing for me.

A Summer Reminder

Summer may be a season of harvest in the world around you, but God may be using this time to plant something new within you.

Do not rush the process.

Receive the inspiration.

Tend the soil.

Trust the preparation.

The seeds God is planting today may become the very things that allow you—and others—to flourish in the seasons ahead.
